White Plains, NY, January 27, 2021– Burke Rehabilitation Hospital announced that it has received another three-year accreditation from The Joint Commission, the gold standard for hospitals. The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® accreditation demonstrates continuous compliance with its performance standards and is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.
Burke Rehabilitation Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review by a team from The Joint Commission, which reviewed Burke’s physical plant as well as patient care, policies and procedures, documentation and infection control. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews. The results of the survey were highly positive, with no high-risk level issues identified.
“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” said Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Burke Rehabilitation Hospital for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”
The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance.
President and CEO Jeffrey Menkes, Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, said, “We are proud of this notable accreditation, which reflects our commitment to providing patients and families with the best possible care. For more than a century Burke has been known for our unwavering standard of excellence and leadership in the field of rehabilitative medicine, which is affirmed by the results of our Joint Commission survey.”
In addition to accreditation from The Joint Commission, Burke is also accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
